Ad Page

I picked up my ad page from Megan at Graphique Fine Art Photography. I think it turned out great! Megan has been a joy to work with. She is alway professional and will do just about anything to make the customer happy. I wasn't happy with my initial ad page, but she listened to me and kept working on it till she had what I wanted. She is amazing.

Megan shared that she got into Pageant Photography about three years ago. The last three Mrs. Colorado's were all photographed by Megan for their head shots and ad pages. January Pack Meeting 2009

Our January Pack Meeting was very festive this month since it had a carnival theme. We started the business portion of our meeting with a flag ceremony including the Pledge of Allegiance. Next we gave out our "Atta Boy" awards. These are awards given by parents and other adults for Cub Scouts who do things for others with out being asked. Some of the awards given were for helping to clean house with out being told or being extra nice to a neighbor (citizenship). Then our regular achievement awards were handed out. We finished our business portion by saying farewell and thank you to our current Scout Master and hello to our new Scout Master. All adult positions in our Scout Pack are volunteer positions. We each give a few hours per week to see that our Scout program is successful.

The main part of the evening was spent with the boys and their families playing games set up by each Den. We had fishing, balloon relay races, mini golf, musical chairs and marbles. The boys that played our marbles games also had the opportunity to earn the marbles belt loop award. Musical chairs and marbles were probably the most popular, but all were enjoyed by the scouts. It was so much fun we had a hard time getting most people to leave when the meeting was over. It is so great to have fun as a community. It's how citizenship is learned.

2nd Class

Here is a picture of my proud son, Joshua (age 11). He has just completed his second class board of review and is holding his new Second Class badge. It's like a pageant interview or job interview. He has to stand in front of a group of adult leaders and answer questions about Scouting and what he did to achieve the rank of second class. The ranks of Boy Scouts are Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle. Josh has moved fairly quickly as a new Scout. He crossed over into Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts last January. He is working hard to catch up to his brother, Stephen, who is 16 and a Star Scout. Joshua felt the first aid requirement was the most difficult, but exciting part of the requirements for Second Class. I am so proud of him for achieving the rank of Second Class and for a very successful Board of Review. His character came through at his Board of Reveiw and one of the adults commented that he had the maturity of a 15 year old just in an 11 year old body. The future looks bright for this Scout!

Building Bridges

Tonight we had our first Den meeting of 2009. We did a joint meeting with the second year Webelos in our Pack- we are first year Webelos. We are working on our Engeineering badge. We started working on the badge last fall with a field trip to a construction site. Tonight, the boys began the meeting by drawing a floor plan of their own house. Then we learned about different types of bridges. Then the fun began. Each boy built a bridge out of Legos, Kenex or Lincoln Logs. It was great to see 12 boys, ages 9-11, be so focused. We then watched the collaps of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on YouTube. It was great to hear their comments! What a lesson in how not to build a bridge. At the end of the meeting, all the boys cleaned up their bridges and materials and not one of them complained! One of the boys even brought the box of Lincoln Logs to me without being asked. That's character!
